Meet Jacob Gustafsson, co-founder and CPO

Learn about why Jacob started Centi, the challenges of entrepreneurship, and a bit about his journey from tech to fintech

Hey Jacob! Can you start by telling us a bit about what you do at Centi?

I’m heading up Product development, which means that I focus on in depth understanding the problems our customers are facing, and then working together with design and engineering to come up with solutions. I try to be a bridge between the commercial needs and the technical opportunities and boundaries.

What made you become an entrepreneur? And maybe more specifically, what made you start Centi?

When I started discussing the problem space we are addressing with George, it wasn't a hard decision to start this journey. I think employee ownership is important and valuable, and this is what we are helping our customers with.

I did not decide to become and entrepreneur and then started a company, rather, this was an opportunity that I jointly identified with George, whom I enjoy working with! I’ve realised that I enjoy the process of moving from idea to reality, so in retrospect, it was a good decision.

What has been the most challenging so far?

We are bringing something new to a large and established market, which means that customers and partners need to change their routines to get the benefits. This requires patience even though you know that the solution is ultimately leaving all stakeholders better off.

You recently had an addition to the family, little Agnes was born two months ago, congratulations! 🐣🎉 How has it been combining parenthood with entrepreneurship during this period?

I must say it has been working very well. I’m lucky to be part of a team that is supportive and a setup that makes it work.

Rumours are that since head office moved to Södermalm [neighbourhood in Stockholm], you have regretted not moving there, is this something you would like to comment on?

I honestly did not spend much time in Södermalm my first 6-7 years in Stockholm, but it has proved to be a nice area. Thanks to George who is usually very open minded but not when it comes to office location. Södermalm was apparently the only option so didn’t have much choice really.

Finally, what are you most excited about looking ahead?

I’m looking forward to deepen our connection and value add to existing customers, helping our customers is very rewarding!
